Both Golfers are Looking for Their First PGA TOUR Win

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., May 9, 2024 — Beau Hossler made six birdies and an eagle on his way to a 7-under-par 64 Thursday to share a two-way lead with Robert MacIntyre after the first round of the Myrtle Beach Classic, being played at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club. Hossler and MacIntyre, each of whom is looking for his first win on the PGA TOUR, are a stroke ahead of four players who finished with a 65.

“I feel like I’m trending. I’ve got some stuff that I’m working on that I feel pretty excited about. It’s peaks and valleys in this sport. It’s really frustrating,” said the 29-year-old Hossler post-round. “I think it’s like that for pretty much every player in the world except for one (Sheffler) at the moment, and I’m trying to just accept the fact that it is what it is and try and have a little better attitude when I’m down because it’s tough to ride that emotional roller coaster for a career.”

Hossler spent most of the day with a solo lead before MacIntyre rolled in a 35-foot birdie putt on his last hole to claim a share of the lead to finish with just 24 putts for his round.

“To be honest, from that range you’re just trying to make par. You’re trying to hole it, but you’re just trying to make good speed,” said MacIntyre after he finished. “I try and get away from the outcome and just hit it out of the middle of the putter. I thought I putted really well today.

Play continues through Sunday (May 12) at the 7,347-yard venue that was host to the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship on PGA TOUR Champions from 1994 to 1999, with notables Raymond Floyd, Jim Colbert, Jay Sigel, Gil Morgan, Hale Irwin and Gary McCord claiming titles. Twenty-one years earlier, this Robert Trent Jones-designed course was the site of PGA TOUR Q-School Finals in 1973, with Ben Crenshaw taking medalist honors.

The Myrtle Beach Classic is a dual-field PGA TOUR event sponsored by Visit Myrtle Beach and managed by SPORTFIVE, a global event management company. The local event will be one of two stops in the Palmetto State for the PGA TOUR in 2024, joining with the RBC Heritage in April at Harbour Town Golf Links.
