Brandt Snedeker Tops the List with Nine Wins; 92 Total Wins Among the Group

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., May 4, 2024 — Brandt Snedeker, who was the No. 4 ranked golfer in the world in 2013 and has played on two victorious U.S. Ryder Cup teams, leads a list of 38 PGA TOUR winners who will play in the first Myrtle Beach Classic. The group has a total of 92 victories between them, headlining the field of 132 golfers who will challenge the 7,347-yard layout at the Dunes Golf and Beach Golf from May 9-12.

Snedeker tops the list with nine wins on the TOUR from 2007-2018, including the TOUR Championship in 2012. His last win came at the 2018 Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C., where he shot 59 in the first round. He is one of 10 players to shoot a sub-60 round on the TOUR. After playing in pain for several years, Snedeker had surgery in December 2022 to correct a complicated back problem. He began his comeback in June 2023 and will have played in 11 events in 2024 prior to coming to Myrtle Beach.

Others in the field who have multiple PGA TOUR wins include Billy Horschel with eight wins, while South Carolina’s Bill Haas has six wins. Jonathan Byrd, Ryan Moore and Nick Watney have five wins apiece, and Aaron Baddeley, Daniel Berger, Kevin Kisner, Martin Laird and Sean O’Hair each have four victories.

Horschel, a standout at the University of Florida, has at least one TOUR win in seven different seasons. Haas, meanwhile, had a stellar collegiate career at Wake Forest and then won six times on TOUR from 2010-2015, including the 2011 Tour Championship. Like Snedeker, Haas is working to rekindle his career after being involved in a serious car crash in 2018.

Byrd was the PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year in 2002, while Moore turned pro after winning both the NCAA individual title and the U.S. Amateur in 2004. Watney was a three-time All-American at Fresno State and then won five times on the TOUR from 2007-2012, climbing to be the No. 9 ranked golfer in the world in 2011.

Baddeley also looked like an immediate star after winning the Australian Open as an amateur in 1999. Berger was ranked as high as 12th in the world in 2020 and won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in 2021, while Laird represented his native Scotland in three World Cup Matches, lastly in 2018. In contrast, O’Hair turned professional while still in high school and worked hard to earn his PGA TOUR card and eventually finish in the top-12 in all four major championships.

Chez Reavie has won three times on TOUR, while Patton Kizzire, K.H. Lee, Troy Merritt, Kevin Streelman and Erik van Rooyan have two wins apiece. Twenty-one more players in the field have one win on TOUR. Horschel is the most recent winner in the field, having finished first at the 2024 Corales Puntacana Championship.

“This course has raised greens and more slopes to the fairways than I thought it would, with demanding second shots and challenging greenside bunkers,” says Byrd, a South Carolina native and Clemson graduate who visited for a media day preview in March. “I will have to work to make sure my iron game is on point because you’ll have to be sharp going into the greens. It’s going to be a really good test.”

The field also includes Jimmy Stanger, who won the 2016 Southern Amateur and the 2016 Hackler Collegiate Championship at the Dunes Club, when he was a student at the University of Virginia. He turned pro in 2017 and has one win on the Korn Ferry Tour, at the 2023 Compliance Solutions Championship.

The Myrtle Beach Classic is a dual-field PGA TOUR event sponsored by Visit Myrtle Beach and managed by SPORTFIVE, a global event management company. The local event will be one of two stops in the Palmetto State for the PGA TOUR in 2024, joining with the RBC Heritage, recently completed (April 18-22) at Harbour Town Golf Links.

A Robert Trent Jones-designed course, the Dunes Club was incorporated in 1948. It was host to the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship on PGA TOUR Champions from 1994 to 1999, with notables Raymond Floyd, Jim Colbert, Jay Sigel, Gil Morgan, Hale Irwin and Gary McCord claiming titles. Twenty-one years earlier, the Dunes Club was the site of PGA TOUR Q-School Finals in 1973, with Ben Crenshaw taking medalist honors.
