Two Concerts Add Music To The Myrtle Beach Classic

Myrtle Beach Classic

Swingin’ Medallions and Thompson Square to Perform at 6 p.m.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., Apr. 2, 2024 — Music will be in the air at the Myrtle Beach Classic as ticketholders for the Thursday and Saturday golf rounds will be treated to a free concert starting at 6 p.m. each night. The area’s first ever PGA TOUR event will be contested from May 9-12 at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club.

The Swingin’ Medallions, a second generation of the beach rock band that reached No. 17 on the Billboard chart in 1966 with “Double Shot of My Baby’s Love,” will provide plenty of energy and instrumentation for the Thursday (May 9) crowd. The nine-piece band with South Carolina roots previously performed with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band on its reunion tour and will make this stop in Myrtle Beach as part of its current tour.

Thompson Square, an award-winning country duo with 10 chart hits, including “Are You Going to Kiss Me or Not,” will take the stage Saturday (May 11). The husband-and-wife team of Keifer and Shawna Thompson received recognition as the Vocal Duo of the Year four times by the Country Music Association and an additional three times by the Academy of Country Music. The duo’s most recent hit, “Without You,” was released in 2023.

The Myrtle Beach Classic is a dual-field PGA TOUR event sponsored by Visit Myrtle Beach and managed by SPORTFIVE, a global event management company. The event will be one of two stops in the Palmetto State for the PGA TOUR in 2024, joining with the RBC Heritage in April at Harbour Town Golf Links.

A Robert Trent Jones-designed course, the Dunes Club was incorporated in 1948. It was host to the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship on PGA TOUR Champions from 1994 to 1999, with notables Raymond Floyd, Jim Colbert, Jay Sigel, Gil Morgan, Hale Irwin and Gary McCord claiming titles. Twenty-one years earlier, the Dunes Club was the site of PGA TOUR Q-School Finals in 1973, with Ben Crenshaw taking medalist honors.
