Shoots 64 to stand at 13-under-par 200
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (May 10, 2025) —Carson Young posted the low round of the day Saturday with a 7-under-par 64 and vaulted to the top of the leaderboard at the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic through three rounds. The 30-year-old Young, who is seeking his first victory on the PGA TOUR, made seven birdies and an eagle on his round to grab a one-stroke lead over Harry Higgs and a two-stroke lead over Mackenzie Hughes, who led after the first two rounds. Five more golfers were three strokes behind, at 10 under par.
Young, who has been on the TOUR for three years, finished with an eagle and birdie over his last four holes, while Higgs birdied three of his last four to pull close.
It’s been a long journey for the former Clemson golfer and South Carolina native, who considered quitting the game just a few years ago.
“I did mini tours for five years, and that’s grueling for sure. It was tough on me and tough on the family; just spending money and being on the road all the time just trying to just have a chance to get on the Korn Ferry Tour,” recounted Young. “I did that for five years and I told my wife that this (2021) is going to be my last Q-school attempt. Then I ended up winning on the Korn Ferry and it changed my perspective on golf.
“I’m here to win and I can’t wait to get out there tomorrow and compete because that’s what I love to do, continued Young.
The forecast calls for rain on Sunday, with tee times shuffled so that the golfers will play in groups of three and start on both the first and 10th tees between 10 a.m. and noon.
