The Myrtle Beach Classic is currently recruiting for over 1,200 volunteer positions for the 2024 event. Volunteerism is a core principle of the PGA TOUR, vital to the success of the Myrtle Beach Classic, and directly impacts the dollars raised for charitable organizations in our community. To date, tournaments across all Tours have generated more than $3.64 billion. Proceeds from the Myrtle Beach Classic will be designated to benefit nonprofit organizations in the Grand Strand area.

The Myrtle Beach Classic will be opening up official volunteer registration on January 8, 2024 to those who have expressed an interest in the volunteer program.

Volunteer Committees

Gallery Management
Responsible for managing gallery noise & traffic; ensuring the safety of our guests by reinforcing health & safety policies; leading by example; and providing a world-class guest experience. Volunteers are assigned to the teeing area, fairway, and green of a specific hole (1-18), or to high traffic areas such as crosswalks or in front of hospitality areas.

  • Active Days: Wednesday – Sunday, three shifts available each day

Gallery Management Schedule Coordinator
Coordinator to determine the best plan for how to ensure coverage on the golf course when necessary. Communicate with the Gallery Management Chair and Volunteers to ensure that everyone is aware of their schedule.

  • Please Note: there will be a considerable amount of time prior to the tournament (approximately 10 hours per week) to create the best possible schedule with no lapse in coverage on the course for all 18 holes on the golf course.
  • Active days: a few weeks prior to the tournament through tournament Sunday

ShotLink Mobile Spotters
Under the leadership of the Scoring Tech, the ShotLink Mobile Spotters will help locate and flag shots that miss the fairway/green, assist with ball flight from the tee, and relay pertinent information to the Scoring Tech such as penalty situations, obstructed shots, and detailed from locations. Volunteers must be 18+ years old and must sign a Disclosure Form.

Walking Scorers
Walking scorer volunteers are essential members of the competition team helping record and relay scores on a handheld device. This position will require successful completion of mandatory training on the days before the tournament. Walking scorers must be comfortable performing basic computer skills and be knowledgeable of golf etiquette/scoring and able to walk 18 holes of a golf course. The minimum age to be part of this committee is 18 years old. Must be available to work at least three days of official tournament rounds. Walking scorers should have the physical ability to easily keep pace with their group across all 18 holes without a break and in varying weather conditions. For reference, 18 holes will vary from 5-6 miles or roughly 10,000 steps. They should be comfortable using a handheld digital device to record each shot, as well as the voice radio with a headset that allows for constant communication. Shift is approximately 6 hours per day. Volunteers must be 18+ years old and must sign a Disclosure Form.

Standard Bearers
Accompany each group of players during tournament rounds and display their scores in relation to par on a cumulative basis on a standard (small scoreboard). PLEASE NOTE: Standard Bearer volunteers MUST be in middle or high school. Standard Bearers must be able to carry the standard (weight approximately 5 to 7 pounds) for all 18 holes with their group and must understand basic stroke counting.

ADA Guest Services
Provide cart transportation for ADA spectators to and from the bus drop at the main entrance and disabled parking to designated areas located on the golf course.

Announcers
Responsible for introducing Pro-Am Players on Wednesday and Tournament Players (during tournament rounds) as they approach the tee box at either #1 tee or #10 tee to begin the round. Strong public speaking skills and appropriate voice/inflection required. Announcers should have knowledge of current PGA TOUR and international players and should be able to identify most players as they approach the tee boxes.

Evacuation
Transport players and caddies off the course to a safe location in the event of inclement weather or an emergency and then back after resumption of play. Must have a valid driver’s license and be 21 years or older.

HOA Shuttle
Shuttle members of the Grande Dunes HOA community to and from various pick-up points to the Dunes Golf and Beach Club Clubhouse. Valid driver license required and be 21 + years of age.

Honorary Observers
Honorary Observers volunteers will assist with the implementation and operation of VIP guests participating in the Honorary Observer Program. Responsibilities will include assisting with logistics, distributing uniforms, implementing guidelines, and escorting guests to #1 tee.

  • Active Days: advance week and Thursday – Sunday tournament week, three shifts available each day
  • Please note: this committee will require approximately 10 hours of work prior to tournament week and approximately 6 hours per day from Thursday – Sunday of tournament week.

 

Hospitality
Manage sponsors and guests in hospitality venues by checking for proper credentials, greeting guests, and providing information as needed. Volunteers will also be asked to monitor venues to ensure they are kept in clean, working order. Volunteers will be stationed in groups at various hospitality venues on the course and need to be able to walk to and from the venue where they are stationed. Volunteers will be on their feet for most of the shift.

Military Appreciation
Greet military guests and check credentials at the entrance to the Patriots’ Outpost as well as assist with on-site military activations throughout the week.

Office Support
Assist prior to and during the tournament by providing general administrative duties including but not limited to answering phones and assisting with spectator questions.

Parking
Operate and control proper access and flow to all parking areas located on-site.

Safety
Identify and, in some situations, correct safety hazards around the golf course. Volunteers on this committee will be assigned to a specific area of the golf course to look for safety hazards and will assist in reporting accidents in their assigned area. This committee will also distribute safety signage and equipment as needed.

Special Events
· Special Events volunteers will help to plan, coordinate, and assist with all special events for the Myrtle Beach Classic. Events include but not limited to: Monday and Wednesday Pro-Am, Pro-Am amateur caddie registration, Pairings Party, Junior Clinic, Sponsor Value Program, etc.

Transportation
Inventory/distribution of vehicles to PGA TOUR players and special guests. Shuttle transportation for sponsors, guests, and volunteers. Valid driver license required and be 21 + years of age. Must have COVID-19 Vaccine.

Airport Concierge
Greet the PGA TOUR professionals and their families. As the first person greeting the players, volunteers for this position must be friendly, welcoming, and helpful. You will become an ambassador of the tournament and the front lines of the players’ experience once they arrive in South Carolina. You may be assisting with luggage in addition to coordinating transportation. Experience with excellent customer service atmospheres is preferred and a professional appearance and attitude are a must. All volunteers are subject to a background check.

Caddie Services
Welcome and register Caddies for the tournament. Volunteers are responsible for distributing, collecting, and washing caddie bibs and towels. They also serve as a resource providing information about local amenities, general information about the tournament, the surrounding area, and overall concierge for other caddies’ needs.

Childcare
Volunteers will work alongside PGA TOUR Staff in making sure PGA TOUR children are taken care of and have a great week at the event. Volunteers must be 16 years or older. COVID 19 Vaccination Required.

PGA TOUR Wives
Communicate with the PGA TOUR Wives organization to help find and plan local community events during tournament week. Using knowledge of the Myrtle Beach area, provide suggestions for family friendly activities and charity-based programming.

  • Active Days: coordination will begin approximately one month prior to the tournament. Please expect to be able to dedicate almost 10 hours per week to providing thoughtful recommendations and potentially attending virtual meetings.

 

Player Caddie Concierge
Assist with controlling the issuance of badges, parking hangtags and tickets to Players and Caddies during the tournament.

  • Active Days: Monday – Friday, two shifts available each day
  • Must be available prior to the tournament for training on credential computer program
  • Typical Shift Length: 4-6 hours

 

Player Performance Center
Stationed at the Player Performance Center to check players into the studio upon arrival and track usage, track independent trainer usage, assist with scheduling, and be on standby with access to a phone in case of emergency.

  • MUST be a male 18 years or older

Player Services
Welcome and register players for the tournament, providing them with necessary credentials. This committee is among the first group to interact with the players upon arrival. They also serve as a resource providing information about local amenities, general information about the tournament, the surrounding area, and overall concierge for other player needs. Once registration is complete volunteers will transition into greeting players, family, and guests entering the designated area for Breakfast and Lunch. Check credentials and monitor doors entering the dining area.

Practice Area
Provide gallery control of the practice areas and regulate access to and from all practice facilities for players, tournament officials and other properly credentialed guests. Assist players at the practice facility with all practice needs and supplies. Volunteer duties include keeping the chipping greens cleared of balls, removing empty bags from the driving range, and cleaning and sorting range balls.

Admissions and Information
Scan tickets using Ticketmaster equipment and assist with checking for proper credentials. Assist with on-site ticket sales, Will Call distribution, and issuing proper credentials. Act as a welcoming team and provide customer service for mobile tickets. Greet and help direct spectators in various locations on and off course.

Ambassadors
Greet, interact, and provide tournament assistance to spectators requesting guidance when entering the course and around the course. Information booths and mobile teams are positioned to interact with the largest number of fans to improve the tournament experience.

Cart Control/Shuttles
Control inventory and distribution of the fleet of volunteer golf carts making sure they are charged every night and checked out by the properly authorized individual with keys returned pre-tournament, during, and post-tournament. Volunteers on this committee will be asked to provide shuttle service for volunteers needing transportation out on the course. Volunteers must be 18+ years old.

Product Distribution
Responsible for distribution of food and beverage to on-course locations. Must have a valid driver’s license. Moderate levels of walking, standing, and some lifting/strenuous activity may be required.

Support Squad
The committee for someone who is up for anything and everything! This committee is special in that you will be helping to supplement all other committees. Volunteers will be placed with other committees that need more assistance to help the tournament be successful. Duties can range from gallery management, working in hospitality, or even helping out at volunteer headquarters. Volunteers will report to Volunteer Headquarters and be given their assignment for the day.

TV Support
Volunteers on this committee will have a range of responsibilities. Some members of this committee will be responsible for carrying and positioning microphones that will enable us to capture shot noise and conversation between the player and their caddie. Other members will be collecting data such as player stats, shot order, club selection, etc. And a few members could assist commentators around the golf course. While volunteering, most Committee members will be required to be on their feet and walk at a swift pace in potentially hot weather.

Uniform Distribution
Inventory and distribute volunteer apparel. This committee will manage the uniform distribution area, apparel exchanges, sales and returns. PLEASE NOTE: Volunteers on this committee will need to be available prior to tournament week (various dates in early March and late February) to assist with Uniform Distribution. Some lifting/strenuous activity may be required.

Volunteer Food
Utilize local connections to work with local restaurants to secure food for the approximately 900 volunteers during tournament week. Volunteers are fed breakfast, lunch, and provided an afternoon boxed lunch depending on shifts worked. This committee will be supported by the Volunteer Coordinator.

  • Please note: this committee will need to be active approximately 2-3 months prior to the tournament and be able to attend weekly/bi-weekly virtual meetings for progress updates.

 

Volunteer HQ
Inventory and distribute volunteer apparel prior to tournament week. Provide volunteer hospitality functions during the tournament. Set up and maintain food and beverage areas. Assist Marshal Chairpersons with on-course lunch and beverage delivery. Minimal walking or standing. These volunteers may also fill in any last-minute needs and open spots in other committees.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, there is a fee to volunteer at the Myrtle Beach Classic, but the fee covers the cost of the volunteer package which includes:

  • One (1) polo
  • One (1) outerwear piece
  • One (1) hat (visor, bucket or baseball style)
  • One (1) volunteer credential that can be used to gain entry into the tournament even when not volunteering
  • More information on the volunteer package and fees will be shared closer to the 2024 Myrtle Beach Classic.

Unless otherwise posted on the Tournament website or communicated by Tournament staff, youth volunteers must be between 13 -18 years of age as of the start date of the Tournament. All other volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for a volunteer position. Some volunteer positions require 25 years of age.

Men may wear grey pants or grey shorts, Women may wear grey pants, skirts, capris or knee-length shorts. Closed-toe shoes are required. Sandals, flip-flops, open-toe shoes and traditional spikes are not permitted.

Your Committee Chair will provide you with information regarding where you should go in the case of inclement weather. Please do not presume that play is canceled if it rains ; report to your assigned duty. Please review the weather chart below for information regarding weather severity.

Electronic leaderboards throughout the golf course will display weather warnings using a color-coded alert scale. Spectators should take precautions upon observing any weather warnings and be ready to seek safe shelter if appropriate, which may include exiting the premises.

In the event of dangerous weather, please avoid hilltops/high places, golf carts, temporary structures, trees and wire fencing.
