Shoots 66 and Chips in on First Playoff Hole; Finishes at 15-under-par 269
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (May 11, 2025) — Ryan Fox chipped in from across the green on the first playoff hole and watched as his two challengers missed their birdie putts, giving the New Zealander his first PGA TOUR win. He came from behind with a 5-under-par 66 and used a birdie on the par-3 17th to lift him into a three-way playoff at the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic.
Then he claimed his unlikely victory with a chip-in from 60’ before Harry Higgs missed his birdie attempt from 30’ and Mackenzie Hughes misfired from 12’.
“I knew that those guys had pretty good birdie chances and I just wanted to make sure I had a run at it,” said the 38-year-old Fox, who has four wins on the DP World Tour since turning professional 13 years ago. “I hit it really good all day. But the shot of the day for me was the tee shot on hole 17. I hit 9-iron in there to 8’. That gave me a chance to win the golf tournament.”
Hughes held the first-round lead and shared the lead after 36 holes, but he lost his chance to win outright with a bogey on the final hole of regulation play.
Fox made five birdies in his Sunday round, assuring him of finishing better than the tie for fourth last year in Myrtle Beach.
“In this game, you don’t get to win very often,” said Fox, who is in his second season on the PGA TOUR. “It’s certainly nice to get a win out here. It kind of takes the pressure off my back for the rest of the year.”
Fox’s winner’s share is $720,000, but just as important as the money is that he earned a spot into next week’s PGA Championship.
