Finishes with four consecutive birdies at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (May 8, 2025) — Mackenzie Hughes birdied his last four holes to finish at 8 under par and take the first-round lead at the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club.

Hughes made nine birdies and a bogey on his round to hold the lead by one stroke over Will Chandler. Thorbjorn Olesen and Seamus Power over the par 71, 7,347-yard layout. “At the end there I kind of caught fire,” said Hughes. “I can’t remember the last time I birdied the last four holes, but it’s definitely a nice finish”.

“This is my first time here. I had heard really good things. When I got here on Monday, I was impressed with the property and the golf course. It’s a great test of golf. I’m really enjoying it so far.”

Four players were in a group at -6 and a bunch more were three strokes back at -5, while returning champion Chris Gotterup was in a large group at -4. Play continues through Sunday.
