Shoots 69 to stand at 10-under-par 132
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (May 9, 2025) —Mackenzie Hughes shot a modest 2-under-par 69 Friday but it was good enough for him to share the 36-hole lead at the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic with Cristobal del Solar at 10-under 132. Five others were one stroke back.
Those five in close pursuit included 44-year-old Nick Watney, who has five PGA TOUR wins and was once ranked No. 9 in the world, but hasn’t won on TOUR in 13 years.
But the day still belonged to Hughes.
“It just wasn’t the same day,” said Hughes, who posted a 63 in round one. “I didn’t feel like I was swinging the same way I did yesterday. I felt like I was not quite on. Still, a nice job of managing my game and staying patient. I got kind of kind of a slow start and built it up towards the end. I’ve got myself in a good spot.”
The cut came at -2 and included 2018 Open Championship winner Francesco Molinari and college amateurs Jackson Byrd and Nathan Franks. Defending champion Chris Gotterup was safely in at -5.
