Myrtle Beach’s first PGA TOUR event set for May 6-12 at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (Mar. 27, 2024) — The Myrtle Beach Classic will host Horry County Schools (HCS) Day from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on April 22, where more than 200 will receive a hands-on, behind-the-scenes look at what’s involved in running Myrtle Beach’s first-ever PGA TOUR event. The professional golf event will be contested May 6-12 at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club.
“We’re incredibly excited and thankful to be able to partner with the Myrtle Beach Classic to provide our students with an exclusive opportunity to grow in their expected career paths and receive first-hand experience,” said Amanda Van Natta, M.S., A.T.C., Work-Based Learning Specialist for HCS.
Juniors and seniors majoring in programs such as marketing, hospitality and agriculture will be invited to participate. A total of 25 students from eight high schools will be eligible to attend.
While on site, students will have three 30-minute hands-on sessions during which they’ll learn about the preparation of the grounds, turf management, event set-up and the various job options within their anticipated career fields.
“We’re thrilled to welcome these students to The Dunes Golf and Beach Club to provide them with a look into PGA TOUR operations and golf course management,” said Darren Nelson, Myrtle Beach Classic tournament director. “It’s our goal as a community partner to inspire and educate the next generation of golf enthusiasts and professionals, showing them what it takes to orchestrate a successful event.”
